GCSE Revision Course
Exam Board: Edexcel International GCSE (4EA1)
What is English Language?
Students taking this course develop the ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively in both reading comprehension and writing. They learn how to employ a wide-ranging vocabulary, use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. Students are encouraged to develop a personal style and competency in recognising the sense of occasion and audience.
The need for extensive reading is encouraged vigorously by advertising the joys of reading for pleasure as well as for the curriculum and awareness of the ways in which English can be used.
What careers and further study can English Language lead to?
This qualification is a general one that enables students to progress directly to employment or to proceed to further qualifications. Candidates who are awarded grades 6 to 9 in this course are well prepared to follow courses leading to AS and A Level English Language, or the equivalent. Most universities insist on students having at least a 5 (most of the universities require 6 and above) in English Language prior to university application.
Prior learning
We recommend that students who are beginning this course should have a level in English equivalent to First Language competence.
